Here is a sampling of virtual author talk clips from events we have done in BookBreak subscriber schools. The connections the students make with the authors, and the content presented is invaluable! Hearing a bestselling author discuss how they came up with their stories, the characters, and even the drawings is fun for the students, and helps them experience the story on a deeper level. These events help provide a brain break with something fun and engaging, while still achieving the curriculum standard of that lesson. The pre and post talk activities are effortlessly integrated into the curriculum.
BookBreak’s mission is to get students excited about reading and ignite a passion for reading, making it easier to make reading for fun part of the classroom culture.
The authors in the BookBreak program are representative of a wide range of backgrounds and cultures, ensuring that ALL students have opportunities to interact with authors who look like them and who are from a similar background to theirs. BookBreak is highly committed to diversity in the authors who are part of the author talk program. Our goal is for every student to feel seen, heard, and that they feel their stories deserve to be told too! The authors love sharing stories about when they were their age - the fun times and the challenging times too. They are relatable and their messaging about the importance of reading and writing resonates with the students. What’s more, is that they share strategies that help them build their skills, so they can become more confident readers and writers. And who knows, maybe some of the students in the BookBreak program may become bestselling authors themselves! The authors are certainly inspiring during their talks - so much so, that the school library is buzzing with activity to check out books after our author talks! What could be better than that?
We hope you enjoy watching these author clips. Stay tuned, as we add more to the site!
